Angola
• Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms were recorded in a number of provinces in Angola over the past week causing floods.
• Over 1 700 households were affected in the capital city of Luanda. Over 500 people were rendered homeless in Melanje and Moxico, and four were killed by lightning in Huambo as of 12 January.
• Heavy rainfall may still affect some areas of central, north-eastern and south-western Angola over the next 24 h.

Malawi
• Heavy rain, hail and strong wings reportedly affected Central and Northern Regions over 7-8 January, causing damage in several villages.
• Local media report more than 660 houses destroyed or damaged, around 1 600 ha of crops damaged and several families were rendered homeless in Rumphi and Kasungu districts, as of 12 January.
• Heavy rainfall may still affect some areas of northern Malawi and moderate rain may fall in the Central Region, over the next 24 h.

Kenya
• The heavy rainfall that affected Kenya during the October-December Short Rains season triggered flash floods, river overflow and landslides in most of the country. IFRC reports that 112 people died as a consequence, while over 100 000 were displaced and around 240 000 affected in total, mostly along Tana, Nyando and Nyatike rivers. Destruction of road infrastructure, as well as farmland and livestock, rendered the situation worse.
• Heavy rainfall may still affect western and central parts of the country over the next 24 h.
